Russ Forney (front left) is Fat Ruby’s master fly tyer (Ruby is behind him, sporting the fancy bandana). Every fly we sell has Russ’ personal approval, because every one of them comes from his vise. Russ and his flies have appeared in Fly Fishing & Tying Journal, Fly Rod & Reel Magazine, and were featured in The Orvis News. The Orvis Company added several of his creative patterns to their fly collection in 2006. Russ’ latest fly creations and detailed fly tying instructions will be appearing in several popular fly fishing magazines this year. Look for his articles and photographs in Fly Fish America, Flyfisher Magazine, and Hatches Magazine throughout the year.

Family

Russ is a retired Army veteran and now patrols northeastern Wyoming with a fly rod. He is well acquainted with a tying vise and particularly enjoys the challenge of tying and fishing small fly patterns. Russ is an avid tyer, teacher, and angler.

If you attend the Federal of Fly Fishers (FFF) Conclave in Whitefish, Montana this summer, please stop by the fly tying demonstration tables and say “Hello”.
